The
SMVYSA All-Star program started in 2005 by Board Members
Mike Borges and Saul Rodriguez. The All-Star teams are
formed after the recreational season is complete. The
All-Star tournament season runs from mid November to the
end of January. In the 2007-2008 All-Star season, SMVYSA
Shockwave teams participated with teams in the GU10,
GU12, GU14 and BU12 All-Star divisions. A SMVYSA
All-Star team called SMVYSA Barcelona also participated
in the BU14 division.
For the upcoming 2008-2009 All-Star season, SMVYSA plans
to field All-Star teams in all 6 divisions (GU10, GU12,
GU14, BU10, BU12, BU14). Teams will be allowed to pick
their own names, but must wear the League provided
All-Star uniform. Try-outs for the 2008-2009 All-Star
season will be 10/11/08 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, during
the Fall Season mid-season break. Applications to be an
All-Star Coach will be handed out at the Coaches meeting
on 8/9/2008. Applications may also be picked up at the
Snack Bar, or contact Mike Borges.
The goal of the SMVYSA All-Star Program is to develop
sportsmanship, technical skills, tactical skills, team
skills, and individual "life skills" in our players.
Most importantly we try to have lots of fun meeting this
goal. We believe that good sportsmanship within a
competitive team atmosphere will lead to the development
of better academics and better citizens in our youth.
